Born August 2, 1969 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the son Phil and Judy (nee: Atland), Bart is the younger brother of Dan and older brother of Jared. In July of 1979, he moved with his family to Kitchener, Ontario, where his father took a call to pastor the Westheights Brethren in Christ church. For high school, Bart attended Niagara Christian College in Fort Erie where he met his future wife, Joy (nee: de Waard). As this relationship progressed, they decided they needed to choose a church to commit to, and it was decided that Bart would transfer his membership to Christ Community Church in Welland (part of the Reformed Church in America - RCA). Finally, when he got up the nerve, he asked for Joy’s father’s blessing to marry her, which he prayerfully gave. Bart and Joy were married on May 18, 1991 – and then the blessings continued. First was Rebecca, the came Laura, followed by Justine, and last but not least, Caleb. Three weeks after Caleb was born, the family headed west to live in Lynden, WA, while Bart attended the Associated Canadian Theological Schools at Trinity Western University. He graduated in the spring of 2000 with a Masters of Divinity. Immediately after that, Bart accepted a call to be the minister of the Calgary Community Reformed Church. They spent 10 joyful years serving and living in Calgary. In the summer of 2010 the family returned to southern Ontario and in the fall of 2011, Bart accepted a call to pastor the RCA congregation in Wainfleet. It is his joy to continue to walk with this community of faith as they seek to serve God’s kingdom in Wainfleet, Dunnville, Port Colborne, Welland, and the surrounding communities to His glory.
